At Servus Group, our dedication to safety is unwavering. Safety is not just our top priority; it is an ongoing process that encompasses all aspects of our operations. To demonstrate this commitment, Servus Group has obtained COR Certification.
The Certificate of Recognition for Safety program (COR) is a voluntary designation by WorkSafe BC for companies striving for a higher level of occupational health and safety. COR Certification requires in-depth annual and third-party audits of our equipment, field operations, safety systems, and work processes. This audit process includes regular reviews of our safety documentation, observation of our employees while working, and interviews with our staff to ensure that all aspects of our operation meet the highest possible safety standards.
We see robust and dynamic safety systems as essential to our success. Within our organization, we strive to promote a safety culture. We reward employees for bringing attention to unsafe work and reporting accidents and we use this information to continually improve our safety processes. We include our field staff in safety initiatives through an active Joint Health and Safety committee. We hold regular meetings with our workers to identify and address safety concerns and our team of dedicated safety professionals works tirelessly to solve them.
We ensure that our staff receives continuous safety training, beginning with comprehensive online learning that covers all aspects of their jobs. They are also trained on the safety equipment they should use, such as gloves or harnesses. Additionally, we arrange for our staff to undergo relevant third-party training, even if it overlaps with their in-house training. New employees are mentored for a period of time before they are given any responsibilities, and regular retraining is conducted when necessary. Thanks to these measures, our crews are well-informed about the hazards of their work. For instance, our exterior crews, who clean gutters, windows, and dryer vents, face the main risk of falling from heights. To address this, we provide extensive additional training in fall protection, boom lift operations, first aid, and industrial rope access.
Many reputable organizations have safety plans, policies, and procedures in writing. However, there is often insufficient oversight from management to ensure that these guidelines are followed. At Servus, we use technology and digital field management applications. Our crews conduct thorough hazard assessments and upload them to a central database along with job photos. We also have a dedicated safety manager who conducts random spot checks at worksites to ensure compliance and address any safety concerns raised by workers.
When new issues are identified, we act on them promptly. We change policies and paperwork, provide training and equipment, and update our methods. We believe that safety is an ongoing, dynamic process of continual hazard identification and review involving everyone.
